IMPERVIOUS SURFACE DETECTION SYSTEM
IMPERVIOUS SURFACE DETECTION SYSTEM
As heavy rains and floods increase in intensity, stormwater management is becoming a critical factor in urban design. One main element of stormwater management for local governments is the detection of impervious surfaces, so is the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4).
US Local & State Governments must comply with MS4 guidelines to obtain MS4 permits since 2009. This MS4 permit allows local & state authorities to discharge public storm water to the waters of the United States.
Our Solution helps fund MS4 Infrastructure & Maintenance investments
- By enabling City/State Governments to correctly bill for Impervious areas
- By proper detection of impervious areas across time
KEY BENEFITS
The Combination of ArcGIS, Satellite Imagery and Machine Learning
To find a solution to MS4, first we developed an application based on ArcGIS Pro and ArcPy to detect impervious and pervious areas with changes according to time-series satellite imagery with :
- Machine Learning Technics (Support Vector Machines) and Supervised learning.
- Due to the need for more supervised support for each region, we are now using Deep Learning Technics in the next phase of the application. Our deep learning mechanism will extract the building in vector format so finally it will minimize false detections and increase the success of finding classifications of impervious and pervious areas.
